SC 101: Health Science
  • PLO 1 is met at the I and D levels through the exploration of health benefits, organ systems, human sexuality, nutrition, physical exercise and other issues.
  • PLO 2 is demonstrated through articulate responses on exams and also through oral responses and reactions of the various issues about health.
  • PLO 3 is met at the D level as students planning to enter into the health fields will have a working knowledge of anatomy, diseases, exercise and wellness and drugs and its effects on the human body.
SS/PY 101: General Psychology
  • PLO 1 is introduced and demonstrated through the exploration of the field of psychology, theories that underlie human emotion and behavior, psychological processes, behavioral and psychological disorders as well as their treatments.
  • PLO 2 is demonstrated by students through their presentations, written responses and reactions to videos about theories and practice and through oral discussions in groups.
  • PLO 3 is demonstrated as students gain a working knowledge of the field of psychology, its research methods and its applicability to other social and natural sciences.
EN 201: Introduction to Literature
  • PLO 1 is met at the introductory level as students are introduced to literary terminology, genres throughout different periods, literary critical theory and methods used in the analysis of literature.
  • PLO 2 is both introduced and demonstrated through written class work, written responses on exams, oral reports and presentations about specific literary texts, oral responses in both small and class discussions and through reading of a variety of literature from different genres of different historical periods.
  • PLO 3 is introduced as some literary devices and techniques are explained and demonstrated so that students can be aware of their usage in literary writing.
EN 203: Drama
  • PLO 1 is met at the I level as students are introduced to theatrical history, terminology, dramatic critical theory, historical and biographical contexts of specific plays and theatre production techniques.
  • PLO 2 is met at the D and M level as students write one play, act out or dramatically read parts from plays and participate in a theatrical production that is publically presented.
  • PLO 3 is demonstrated as students entering into the theatre will have applicable knowledge of how to produce plays or to participate in the acting of a theatrical production.
EN 204: Poetry
  • PLO 1 is met at the I level as a brief introduction of poetry, its history and terminology are presented.
  • PLO 2 is demonstrated through the written responses to poetry, oral presentations of poetry and poets and through the production of personal poems.
  • PLO 3 is demonstrated through the practice of creating or writing poetry as a process.
EN 208: Introduction to Philosophy
  • PLO 1 is met at the level of I and D in that philosophical literature is introduced, concepts are discussed in relation to each other, and philosophical techniques and methods of argumentation are presented so that students can express and justify their own belief systems.
  • PLO 2 is met at the D and M level through oral presentations and discussions of personal beliefs, written responses to philosophical text and critical reading of philosophical text, concepts and ideas.
  • PLO 3 is met at a D level in that students need to demonstrate argumentative techniques that can be used in the work force.
EN 209: Introduction to Religion
  • PLO 1 is met in that values systems and beliefs from varying world religions along with the questions that these religions try to address are introduced.
  • PLO 2 is met at the I and D levels through oral presentations, group discussions and written reactions, comparisons and responses on exams.
  • PLO 3 is met at the I and D levels by equipping students with responses to the questions that religion tries to answer.
Art 101: Introduction to Art
MU 101: Introduction to Music
  • PLO 1 is introduced as students learn the basic elements of music, perform basic skills of keyboarding, and other instruments, gain an appreciation for music thru exposure to different music styles, and perform publicly either vocally or thru use of different musical instruments.
  • PLO 2 is met at the I and D levels thru musical performances, solo and group piano demonstrations, written exams, and oral presentations.
  • PLO 3 is met at the mastery level in that students should be able to perform publically either in vocal performances or musically with instruments; basics are mastered in that students can operate instruments and have the basic skills to understand and appreciate music.
FL 101: Japanese I
  • PLO 1 is introduced and demonstrated through student expression of the Japanese language basics, greetings, farewells, use of common expressions in drills and thru the use of Hiragana and katagana, the Japanese basic writing system and comparisons of the Micronesian culture to the Japanese culture.
  • PLO 2 is further demonstrated in oral drills, classroom presentations of proper Japanese language usage, written practice using Hiragana and Katakana and oral presentations of daily routines as expressed in Japanese.
FL 102: Japanese II
  • PLOs 1, 2 and 3 are all developed at the I and D level. PLOs are met through the introduction of more language basics, more complex expressions as used in everyday life, basics of KANJI and more use of hiragana and katakana writing systems. Students demonstrate this basic knowledge in quizzes, class presentations, one-on -one conversations, drills and written practice/exercises.
