Liberal Arts/Health Careers Opportunity (HCOP)-Narratives

Course NARRATIVES
SC230 (Chemistry)
  • SC230 meets PLO2 at I and M level because chemistry is one of the basic biological sciences and by passing the course they are reaching "mastery" of this topic.
  • SC230 meets PLO4 at I,D and M levels because throughout the course the students must discuss, analyze and interpret issues relating to chemistry and therefore life sciences. These issues, theories, principals etc. are assessed via reports, research papers, homework’s, labs etc. thus enabling the student to communicate the information in a variety of ways.
SC101 (Health Science)
  • Sc. 101 meets the PLO 1 and PLO 2 because the knowledge of the foundation of basic structure and physiology is necessary for the students to be able discuss, explore and investigate and equate with wellness, diseases and nutrition.
  • Sc. 101 meets the PLO 3 because students knowing what health care is all about and having a wide knowledge of the health providers will guide them in their discussion and analysis that will help then in their decision in getting healthcare from reputable health providers.
  • Sc, 101 meets the PLO 4 because The course includes discussion after a lecture, reports in research papers on human health and health problems that enables them to verbalize or write the information in an advanced manner.
SC122A (A&P I)
  • SC 122A Anatomy and physiology part1 meets PLO1 at I and M level because the course describes the structure and function of the human body, and explains disease production mechanisms. Students passing this course are expected to reach mastery in this area.
  • SC 122A Anatomy and Physiology part 1 meets PLO2 at I and M level because the subject is part of basic biological sciences and students passing this course are expected to reach mastery in this topic. SC 122A Anatomy and Physiology part 1 meets PLO4 at I, D and M level because students taking this course must discuss, analyze, and interpret various topics related to health and human life sciences and communicate this information through lab works, tests, research papers, etc. .
SC122B (A&P II)
  • SC 122B Anatomy and physiology part 2 meets PLO1 at I and M level because the course describes the structure and function of the human body, and explains disease production mechanisms. Students passing this course are expected to reach mastery in this area.
  • SC 122B Anatomy and Physiology part 2 meets PLO2 at I and M level because the subject is part of basic biological sciences and students passing this course are expected to reach mastery in this topic. SC 122A Anatomy and Physiology part 1 meets PLO4 at I, D and M level because students taking this course must discuss, analyze, and interpret various topics related to health and human life sciences and communicate this information through lab works, tests, research papers, etc. .
  • SC 122B Anatomy and Physiology part 2 meets PLO4 at I, D and M level because students taking this course must discuss, analyze, and interpret various topics related to health and human life sciences and communicate this information through lab works, tests, research papers, etc.
  • SC 122B Anatomy and Physiology part 2 meets PLO2 at I and M level because the subject is part of basic biological sciences and students passing this course are expected to reach mastery in this topic.
SC180 (Microbiology)
  • SC 180 Microbiology meets PLO4 at I, D and M level because students taking this course must discuss, analyze, and interpret various topics related to health and human life sciences and communicate this information through lab works, tests, research papers, etc.
  • SC 180 Microbiology meets PLO1 at I and M level because the course explains the mechanisms of infectious disease production. Students passing this course are expected to reach mastery in this area.
SS/PY101 (General Psychology)
  • SS/PY101 meets PLO4 where students are expected to explain the biological processes that underlie human thinking, emotion, and behavior (SLO 2). Upon completion of the course, they are also expected to describe the psychological approaches used to identify psychological and behavioral disorders and their therapies (CSLO 4).
ED/PY201 (Human Growth and Development)
  • SS/PY201 meets PLO4 where students are expected to explain the biological processes that underlie human growth and development.
EN/CO205 (Speech Communication)
  • The students have to prepare and present argumentative speeches on issues of their choice. This requires them to discuss, analyze and interpret data on their chosen topic and then communicate that topic or issue via a speech. Students are free to choose their topic and this is often health and/or human science related.
ANY 100 LEVEL OR ABOVE MATHEMATICS
  • 100 level math meets PLO4 as students are required to complete mathematicl problems using a scientific manner. Furthermore, mathematical problems are often related to human life and and health issues e.g., percentage of sugar in diets, populations of people with diabetes etc.
SC112 (Nutrition)
  • SC112 meets PLO 3 and 4. The student's knowledge regarding health problems that plague human life will make them aware those nutritional choices affects health well or badly. Group work, in doing research will enhance student's ability in analysis, investigating and writing about current health difficulty and questions.
