Course description: This course is designed to provide the student an overview of the entrepreneurial process of creating a business. The definition of entrepreneur, types of business organizations, legal aspects, personnel management and the criteria for establishing a small business are discussed. The student will create a simple business.

1.3 Describe the legal forms of business organizations and their advantages and disadvantages. 6 3 A grading rubric will be used to assess an essay type quiz in which the student will need to list and describe each legal form of business ownership and provide their respective advantages and disadvantages.
1.4 Describe the private enterprise system. 6 3 A grading rubric will be used to assess a quiz requiring the student to provide examples and details of the private enterprise system.
1.5 Describe the factors of production. advantages and disadvantages. 6 3 A grading rubric will be used to assess a quiz requiring the student to list and provide examples of the factors of production.

A grading rubric will be used to assess a short essay quiz requiring the student to provide brief descriptions of each component of small business

management; in addition, a rubric will be used to assess a writing exercise for the student to compose a draft of each component.

2.1 Define an economic system. 6 3 A grading rubric will be used to assess a short essay quiz requiring the student to define an economic system.
2.2 Describe the FSM economic system and its general business environment. 6 3 A grading rubric will be used to assess the student’s response to prompts following a video presentation on the FSM’s economy and a brief survey of the business environment in the FSM.
2.3 Explain the importance of small business in the FSM economy. 6, 7 3 A grading rubric will be used to assess a short writing assignment requiring the student to conduct research and provide details and examples of how small business contributes to the FSM economy.
2.4 Identify business opportunities and trends in the FSM and the global market. 6, 7 3 A grading rubric will be used to assess an oral presentation requiring the student to share findings of business opportunities in the FSM and globally. The student will also be tasked to list at least 3 potential choices of preference.
