The Division of Social Sciences

The mission of the COM-FSM Social Science Division, with five full-time faculty, is to provide quality instruction for social science courses that support the various degree programs at the college. In addition, the division is also charged with the operation of the college’s Micronesian Studies A.A. Degree Program.

The general goal of social science instruction at COM-FSM is to teach students to understand the social and psychological dynamics of societies and individuals and the ways in which humans interact with their physical environment.

The purpose of the Micronesian Studies Program is to produce graduates with extensive knowledge and understanding of Micronesian society, politics, public policy, economics, geography and culture in preparation for careers in government and education or transfer to a four-year college.
