January 1996 - August 2000

Title III Math/Science Software Specialist at the College of Micronesia-FSM. Led the redesign of curricula to utilize computer software support, involved in the study of the effects of technology on math learning for Micronesian (ESL Pacific Island) students. Designed LiveMath laboratories for use in MS 098 Transition to Algebra, MS 100 Algebra, and MS 101 Algebra and Trigonometry. Performed math and science faculty, staff training in computing technologies.

Spring 2000 Taught SC 202 Weather and Climate. Taught SC 130 Physical Science for eight weeks in absence of regular instructor. Put course support materials for both courses online. Wrote Title III Final Performance Report for math/science sector.

Fall 1999 Continued development of SC 250 Botany with Technology course. Adopted software for use in Chemistry course. Continued to train faculty, staff, and students.

Spring 1999 Trained faculty and staff in use of LiveMath, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, email, and the Internet. Configured computer laboratory local area network for student access to the Internet.

Fall 1998 Designed and implemented a project wherein the computer became a tool in SC 250 Botany course. Students were taught to use a flat-bed scanner, digital camera, and basic web page software to create online herbarium pages. Demonstrated use of computers as tool in science courses (as opposed to a vehicle for drill and practice instruction).

Spring 1998 Worked on LiveMath modules for use in MS 101 Algebra and Trigonometry courses. Also developed Excel notebooks that also supported MS 101.

Fall 1997 Designed and ran a study to determine if an instructor variable impacted the study of the previous spring. Result was again a null result: no differential measured pre-test to post-test gain between a section using computing technologies and a section not using computing technologies. Students, however, self-reported that computers were helpful.

Designed the College and University Success Program PrePilot. Handled implementation of science subproject. Worked with the local high instructor in identifying student weaknesses. Developed activities that targeted identified weaknesses. Trained high school instructor to implement activities and to measure the results. The result was the targeted weak areas showed statistically significant improvement.

Spring 1997 Designed and oversaw a four-way test of the impact of technology in the MS 098 Transition to Algebra course.  Results showed no statistically significant differential impact as measured by a pre-test and post-test.

Fall 1996 Designed MS 095 PreAlgebra: Cognitive Approach curriculum. Follow-up work proved that students experienced greater success in the subsequent course as a result of the experimental curriculum.
