F-III/1-3 $16,146 - $17,810 PA

Duties: : Instructor will teach up to 15 contact hours per semester of introductory music courses to non-native English-speaking students with little prior formal music instruction; develop materials and course outlines for music courses; maintain lab of approximately 20 electronic keyboards; integrate keyboard instruction into music coursework; and coordinate music for commencement exercises. Other related duties may include the development and leadership of credit and/or noncredit musical activities (such as choir, glee club and/or instrumental ensembles) and the coordination of opportunities for musical enrichment (such as faculty and/or guest artists’ performances). Institutional responsibilities include providing academic advising to students; maintain regular office hours; providing follow-up guidance to at-risk students; serving on committees; preparing course syllabi; participating in curriculum development/revision; establishing and assessing student learning outcomes; participating in professional development activities; assisting with regular registration and planning of classes for each semester. Within the scope of the instructor’s qualifications and experience, additional duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the college and the community in the form of in-house workshops, student activities, and/or technical assistance. This also includes the possibility of teaching non-music courses or creating audio and/or visual archives of traditional Micronesian music to preserve culture through ethnomusicology.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from a US accredited institution in Music Education or related field such as music performance, ethnomusicology or music therapy. Applicant must have two years of full-time teaching experience. Applicant should have experience with establishment and assessment of student learning outcomes. Instructor should possess experience working in a multicultural international setting with cultural diverse students; have the ability to communicate with clarity; and exhibit sensitivity to students’ personal culture and gender differences in a non-threatening learning environment. Two years experience in living oversees from the applicant’s homeland is preferred. Ability to give evidence of exemplary teaching ability, initiative, interpersonal skills, and cultural sensitivity is essential.
