grub2: Installation

1 4 Installation
1 **************
1
1 In order to install GRUB as your boot loader, you need to first install
1 the GRUB system and utilities under your UNIX-like operating system
1 (⇒Obtaining and Building GRUB). You can do this either from the
1 source tarball, or as a package for your OS.
1
1 After you have done that, you need to install the boot loader on a
11 drive (floppy or hard disk) by using the utility 'grub2-install' (⇒
 Invoking grub2-install) on a UNIX-like OS.
1
1 GRUB comes with boot images, which are normally put in the directory
1 '/usr/lib/grub/<cpu>-<platform>' (for BIOS-based machines
1 '/usr/lib/grub/i386-pc'). Hereafter, the directory where GRUB images
1 are initially placed (normally '/usr/lib/grub/<cpu>-<platform>') will be
1 called the "image directory", and the directory where the boot loader
1 needs to find them (usually '/boot') will be called the "boot
1 directory".
