1 GRUB supports environment variables which are rather like those offered
1 by all Unix-like systems. Environment variables have a name, which is
1 unique and is usually a short identifier, and a value, which is an
1 arbitrary string of characters. They may be set (⇒set), unset
1 (⇒unset), or looked up (⇒Shell-like scripting) by name.

1 parts of GRUB. Others may be used freely in GRUB configuration files.
