Duties:
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Program Specialist, the duties of the incumbent include the following but are not limited to:
  • Follow blueprints and building plans;
  • Design, construct, retrofit, and repair cabinets, tables, shelves, benches, partitions, flooring, doors, window frames, and other types of furniture;
  • Install structures and fixtures, such as windows and molding;
  • Measure, cut, or shape wood, plastic, and other materials;
  • Construct building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes;
  • Help erect, level, and install building framework with the aid of rigging hardware and cranes;
  • Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures;
  • Instruct and direct laborers and other construction helpers;
  • Install, repair, and maintain building roof;
  • Clean, maintain, adjust, calibrate and service equipment used in the performance of duties;
  • 1Secure buildings, furniture, equipment, and vehicles for natural and manmade disasters;
  • Assist in the wiring of specifications for repairs and new construction; and
  • Serve on relevant committees and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Vocational HS graduate with 4 years of relevant work experience in the area of assignment. Preferred an apprenticeship journeyman certificate. Ability to stand for long hours a day, lift and carry heavy materials [up to 50 lbs. unassisted] Read and write in the local language and understand spoken English.
Skills and Competency Requirements:
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting equipment [up to 50 lbs. unassisted], bending, standing, climbing, and walking;
  • Wide knowledge and skills in construction;
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry in both residential and commercial/industry;
  • Knowledge of applicable building and safety code requirements;
  • Knowledge of methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment;
  • Knowledge and skill in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of structures and surfaces;
  • Ability to work under pressure with less supervision; and
  • Can assess future problems with the construction.
