BU270 Principles of Marketing

COURSE DESCRIPTION

To introduce students to the basic concepts of marketing such as consumer behavior, marketing research, and information systems, segmentation strategy, as well as product, distribution, promotion and price planning. In addition, students will be introduced to the broader context of marketing, including ethical and consumer issues, and international marketing.  By the end of the semester, student should be able to prepare a simple but complete marketing plan for a local business

The student will be able to:

1. Explain basic concepts of marketing such as consumer behavior, marketing research, and information systems, as well as product, place(distribution), promotion and price planning

2. Discuss ethical and consumer issues, and international marketing

3 . Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of marketing by preparing a simple marketing plan for a local business

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides an introduction to programming using Microsoft Visual Basic .NET. The course aims at presenting programming concepts and then a series of hands-on, step-by-step activities to reinforce learning through practical applications in the business environment.

COURSE DESCRIPTION


An introduction to computer concepts and applications.  Provides student basic knowledge of the computer hardware components and operating system and basic skills in using word processor, spreadsheet, database, and presentation application programs.  Using the internet – electronic mail and the world wide web – is also covered.

IS280 Introduction to Networking

COURSE DESCRIPTION


This course provides both the theoretical and practical knowledge of computer networking technology. The fundamental knowledge gain in theoretical domain will be put into practice using hands-on experience. It covers topics such communication protocols, transmission media, network devices and appliances, connecting to a wired and a wireless network, Wide Area Network, basic network design, security, maintenance and trouble shooting.

The student will be able to: 

1. Describe the different network topologies and geographical setup

2. Describe the different types of transmission media used in networking

3. Identify the different layers of OSI layers and how it is related to different protocols used in current networking technologies.

4. Identify the various hardware involved in setting up a network

5. Identify  the various software involved in a client/server environment

6. Demonstrate how to do maintenance and troubleshooting procedures in a networking environment
