Marlene was in the
pioneer batch of the Bachelor in Computer Data Processing Management
at the
Polytechnic
University of the Philippines in 1982. She also holds a Master of
Business Administration degree from the
Virgen Milagrosa
University Foundation, Philippines, and is presently pursuing her
doctorate in Business Administration.
After working for some insurance companies in Manila, she decided
to pursue her career in her home province. From then on, she served as
a computer instructor to various colleges and universities of
Pangasinan, Philippines such as
Virgen Milagrosa
University Foundation,
Philippine College of Science and Technology,
STI College and
the
Pangasinan State
University, both to undergraduate and graduate levels. Her passion
to fashion led her to be working in a garment factory where she was
assigned as an operations manager. A lighter side of her reveals her
interests to ornamental plants as she ventured in collecting cacti and
succulents and
coleus, that became popular in her home province on account of her
initiatives. When she became Chair of the Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) Department of the
Pangasinan State
University, she initiated some state of the art projects such as the
implementation of various computerized systems in the university and
the establishments of a Cyber Center and e-Learning Center that
prepared the students to be globally competitive. She also initiated
the enhancement of the curriculum of the ICT program to keep it at
pace with the present needs of the ICT Industry. She also served as a
member of the Bids and Awards Committee in its e-procurement system.
With so many years in a supervisory job, she still relishes the
idea of slowing down and be on the frontline once again in imparting
her expertise and knowledge to students. So when an opportunity came
for her to realize her wish, she didn't have second thoughts and got
into the
College of Micronesia - FSM. She now enjoys her position as a
part of the teaching force at the Business Division and
at the same time, takes pleasure in an island lifestyle apart from
the usual hectic schedules and day-to-day worries. She enjoys Pohnpei
a lot with her family, and incidentally, her husband,
George Mangonon, is a Mathematics Instructor at COM-FSM Pohnpei
Campus.
