The Really Really Long List of Negative Words
Otherwise known as the A204 Sciencemath computer laboratory regulations
- Do not eat, drink, chew gum, or chew betelnut in the laboratory. The computers are fasting
- Do not play games on the computers, either local or Internet based. This includes, but is not limited to, solitaire, hearts, and space invaders.
- Do not access chat sites on the Internet. Internet chat of any sort is banned in the laboratory from sun up to sun down.
- Do not download programs or music. Do not install any software onto the computer.
- Do not activate any instant messenger services. Please do not download, startup, or otherwise load MSN, AOL, or other instant messenger services.
- Do not access material that may offend others. Do not view pornography.
- CD-ROMs must be used in the laboratory and must not be removed from the laboratory.
- Do not create directories or subdirectories on the computer.
- Do not print out pages you do not need .
- Do not print multiple copies of the same document.
- Do not go around system security measures. Do not alter system settings.
- Do not access systems for which you are not authorized access.
- Do not turn off the computers during the day.
- Keep the door closed, the humidity outside can damage the internal components of the computers.
- Evening and weekend use of the laboratory is a service provided for the dormitory students and access remains limited to the dormitory students
- If the music disturbs your concentration, please inform us!
- Keep the laboratory clean. Do not litter. Thanks!
Use of the Internet is for academic, educational, support, and research purposes. Users of email and chat can be bumped off of a computer at any time.
Bumping Hierarchy
Priority I Computer Use: Bumps all levels below it
- Use of mathematics or science software for a class assignment. This software is not available in other laboratories on campus.
- Academic use of a specific machine for its unique software:
A204-19 for Adobe Photoshop
A204-20 for Corel Draw
A204-21 for FrontPage
A204-25 for Stella
A204-29 for scanning
Priority II Computer Use: Bumps all levels below it, can be bumped by priority I users
- Use of the Internet to do research for mathematics and science classes
Priority III Computer Use: Bumps all levels below it, can be bumped by priority I and
II users
- Use of the Internet for academic research and educational purposes
- Use of Word Processing software such as Microsoft Word for class assignments. This software is available elsewhere on campus.
- Academic use of the computers
Non-priority IV Computer Use: Bumps all levels below it, can be bumped by priority I,
II and III users
Non-priority V Computer Use: Bumped by everything including the whim of the laboratorymonitors
Explicitly banned
- Games, except for chess, such as but not limited to solitaire, free cell, minesweeper, hearts, pinball.
