Division Computer Distribution Policy

Division computers will be placed on faculty desks according primarily to need and secondarily by seniority. In the policy below the word station refers to the desk or within the general confines of the cubicle. Using need-based sequencing results in the following priority order for the placement of new computers on desks:

1. No computer in station: Having no division computer at a faculty or staff station puts that station at the top of the list to receive a computer. If more than one person has no division computer at their station, then seniority order is utilized in placing division computers at those stations. This does not include absence of computer due to repair. A computer that is in the process of being repaired still counts as a computer at that station.

2. Partially functional computer in station: A computer that has a dead network interface card, a non-operational floppy disk drive, or other partial failure but can still boot an operating system and run basic productivity software such as a word processor and spreadsheet is deemed a partially functional computer. Wherein replacement parts are not readily available and may take months to arrive, a partially functional computer will be replaced with a new computer. A computer that is simply slow is NOT considered to be partially functional. If there is more than one partially functional computer, then seniority order will be used when replaced these computers.

3. A functional computer on desk: Functional computers will be replaced by new computers only after priorities one and two have been met. To be a functional computer means that the operating system, productivity software, network interface card, and floppy drive are functional. Functional computers will be replaced by replacing the oldest functional computer first. If there is a tie among the oldest functional computers, then seniority order will be used.

Note that this policy covers only computers purchased with division funds. Computers purchased with grant money will be utilized as described by the grant under which they were purchased.

Partially functional computers may be transferred to other personnel in the division.

Remember: Computers belong the THE COLLEGE.  Please do not load nor download non-academic software onto a college computer.
