*~*~*~My Village*~*~*~

Welcome to my webpage!

Laurette!

Thank you for visiting my webpage. My name is Laurette Rosario. I am a student at the College of Micronesia. I am majoring in Computer Information Systems. I always find computers to be interesting.

Paliais is a very small village located in Nett, Pohnpei. If you are wondering where is Pohnpei well, it is in the Federated States of Micronesia. Paliais has a meaning. "Pali" means "side" and "ais" means a tree that is found abundant there. Many people joke about Paliais has a place with lots of "ice." They confuse the word "ais" with "ice." Driving through Paliais you will see many interesting sites. On Sundays, young people play volleyball. There is a place where you can go and play volleyball. Everybody are welcome to play. At my home you can hike to the mountain through my backyard. On the mountain, you will see a amazing view. You can see the Pohnpei State Hospital, the Nett Elementary School, and many more. The top of the mountain is flat. You can play baseball there. There is a Japanese cemetary located on the side of the mountain. Also you can see Japanese equipments they used for the World War II. A variety of birds live there. If you are driving through my village, you can see many houses. Almost everyone there know each other. At the end of my village you can see Nett Point, a popular swimming site. It is a old docking site. It is no longer in use. Supposedly, it was believed that a big fish lives there. I have not seen that fish but heard many stories about it.

In my village we have a leader called a "soumahs." He is responsible for leading our village. Every year the villagers offer breadfruit when ripe to him. It is a custom that is still practice today. The men would prepare sakau and prepare a "omw." "Omw" is a traditional way of cooking that uses rocks and fire to cook breadfruit, pigs, and other local foods. After preparing these things, they are ready to offer it. They along with their wives take it to the leader. The leader takes their offering and distribute it evenly to everyone who has a traditional title.

Paliais has four sections.
