A large rock sits in the lagoon of Mwoakilloa. It is known as the Ghost Rock, & older people on the island say that the rock was once a woman.
The women of whom the older people speak was the wife of the chief & she died giving birth. The child also died & the spirit of the woman was so enraged that she chased everyone, including the chief, away from the island where the mother & child had died. After escaping hurriedly, the chief remembered that he had left some of his belongings & much of his treasure on the island with the mad spirit. The chief asked for volunteers to return to the place & retrieve his things, but even the bravest men were afraid to go. Finally, a young man came forward out of the group & said he would try to help the chief. So happy & relieved was the chief that he had promised the young man that he would be the next chief if he was successful.
The swiftest canoe on the island was prepared for the young man, & he placed a large black rock in the center of the craft. When he sailed to the island, he found the ghost sleeping. He very silently gathered the chief's belongings & took them to his canoe. When he was about to leave, he accidently stepped on a dried coconut frond & the crackling sound awakened the ghost. He quickly leaped on to his canoe & beagn paddling furiously, but the ghost also paddled fast in her boat. As rapidly as he could paddle, trhe ghost was still gaining on him & nearly reached his canoe. Suddenly the young man threw the heavy rock that he brought with him overboard. When the ghost heard it splash, she thought it was the chief's treasure, & she dove underwater after it as the young man hurried back to the safety of his island.
The ghost went all the way to the bottom of the lagoon, only to find a black rock instead of a treasure. She was so upset at being tricked & not finding any treasure that she had died on the spot was turned into the black rock that one sees in the lagoon as the Ghost Rock even to this day.

That's another way to put it, like lover said. But your kemisik in your pants is not the legend here. It's the legend about how the island was repopulated.

hey check this legend. It is about a very cute guy who love to look at his reflection in the pond in his backyard. He looks at his reflection everyday that he felt in love with his own reflection so when the time comes for his wedding day he canceled the wedding because he did not love his fiancee but his own reflection. So the people in his village gave him a name to remind him of his reflection in his own yard. so his yard was marked in memory of that unfortunate day for the bride to be. so his name is a legend and that name is Marky meaning mark the yard that consist of the pond that contains his reflection. So way to go Marky. You have a legend for yourself. Isn't that sweet?

Okay here's another one. There live a very beautiful girl on the Island of Kosrae. She loves to go swimming in sea ponds. And one day the king and his servants were in their canoes then they saw this very enchanting girl with long hair, skin as soft as velvet and eyes as brown as macadamia nuts in Hawaii, the King fell in love at first sight and he ordered his servants to capture the beautiful maiden, but unfortunately her mom was nearby and her mom was a whale, her mom (whale)splashed water to the king's face with her tail, the king was so furious that he ordered his servants to execute the whale and they did just that. Then after that they captured the daughter and took her to the kings mansion which is the Insahruh and it looks the same as NanMadol but in consequence of her mother's tragic death the girl lose her strength day by day. The king tried to console her and tried to give all the love he possessed yet the girl didn't get well. She gradually slipped away in a world of mournful darkness. Then she passed away. The king took her to the other side of the harbor and put her there. He wouldn't bear to bury such a lovely face so the body remain intact on the surface of the island of Kosrae. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, months turned into years, years turned into decades and decades turned into centuries but still the body of the beautiful maiden remained unburied. So with the accumulation of different plants and species the body turned into the beautiful and legendary mountain of Kosrae which the people proudly called the Island of the Sleeping Lady. If you ever come to our island there is a silhouette of a woman here. And her mom which is the whale turned into the village of Lelu and if you ever visit Kosrae you will see that the village of Lelu is shaped like the whale. And that I leave you the legend of Kosrae the Island of the Sleeping Lady.
