Do you agree with the US Military coming every year to recruit our fresh men and woman right after high school?

    Why or Why not?

How can you support your Idea?

Well, that is up to us the FSM citizens.
As we all know the ASVAB=Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is given to those who want to join not to those who doesn't want to join. It is given through options which means that it is optional. If you want to join why not? They're gonna give you free tuition, free airfare, free housing, and so any beneficial means. That is why I believe that the military recruition here in the FSM is not just an exploitation. And besides that, I had a Filipino Teacher who asked me : "Why do FSM students especially the bright ones bother to go and protect some other country (The United Nations) while there are many positions for them here?" Then I told him that since America is the only country who had felt sorry for us (The FSM Gov) and had helped us since the WWII we should be grateful for them and for their hospitality.

excuse.....sumimasen....I mean....clear as crystal.....let me quote "since America is the only country who had felt sorry for us ( The FSM Gov".......We have heard from our friends/allies like China, Japan, EU, etc....that they care for us too not to mention our Gymnasium was built by the China Government or the Pohnpei administration building and many more......Japan on the other hand....supplied Chuuk schools with computer(free internet access) and buses.....anyways that's in response to "only country who had felt sorry for us".....

as for the Phillipino question.....we do not fight for any other countries freedom we fight for our own....keep in mind that we are protected in the pacific by the US.....so really our brothers are with those who will fight for us if we ever get into war.....

to support my friend t-tong it is really our choice.....everything comes with a price.....

t-tong.....not that you are wrong but what is it that they want from us?? Given their land is more than twice the size of islands....economically diverse and so on.....we go to the us for medical treatment....what is it that they want from us??

speaking of history during spanish, german, Japanese and American occupation in Micronesia there was always disadvantage.....all the same....what's important is what is happening today.....we are no longer slaves by Japanese or by any of the mentioned nationalities.....

I always like your arguments Mori-M..

The past was in the past. The present is the present... Everything has changed, and them people who gave us hard lives back then, I know they are glad things have changed too..

at first i don like the idea of recruiting, but then i realize that its not a bad thing, its really about making the right choices. if you chose to be in the military or no, u're the one who will face the outcomes.....it also a good thing because US i giving us financial assistant so in return we join their military and also get benefit from it..........

Yep, that's the point too SOulik.. Everyone make their own choices. Some people complain for others' choices, and what's the big deal, it's not theirs. Being in the military has both disadvantages and advantages.

U.S. Militaries coming and recruiting all our men and women to join military? I don't know what to say but I have my utmost respect to them and I saluted them for serving our countries. But let me ask this question..... Since that all U.S. soldiers are now withdrawing from Iraq. Does the U.S. militaries still need some recrution? Why? or Why not?

FSM citizens join the United States Armed Forces for the benefits, not only to them but their families. United States has been doing a lot of good things to FSM, as well as the other countries like China, Australia, Japan, and etc. The scholarships, the Pell grant, the COMPACT of Free Associations, the nice looking buildings, sport facilities are things that these countries support us with. This is a lot, don't you think?

In return, as a citizen gaining these benefits, what do you want to do for them? Are you going to join the military for the good pay only, or are you someone that wishes to fight and protect the REDWHITEANDBLUE? Let us not say that joining is good or bad, let's just allow those who have been there and done that to speak. Let's listen. True, many bright FSM citizens joined the military. From my view, I say that it is another way of taking them to reach their dreams.

So, let's all hope that those already serving come back after years to help FSM.
  3.
Hello everyone, let me clarify view things here. One, t-tong tell your filipino teacher, that when a student joined the US Military, he/she doens't protect only America but FSM as well. Two, Mori m US doesn't feel sorry for US. It's the decision made by the United Nations for America to be the adminitrator during the TT after WW II. America just took it to another level by giving us so much more then just what was written back during the TT years.

As for any speculation that the recruitment is an act of exploitation, i beg to differ. On the contrary my friends, recruiting for the Military forces has always been the way of the military after the Draft. So many other companies in America that does recruiting which none of you guys wanted to mention here. Like the sugar plantation fields in Hawaii and the Pineapple fields in Hawaii, they too also recruit here. The restaurant industry in the Mainland US also come to the islands and recruit workers in their restaurant. All of these are a major part of the Compact of Free Association we agreed upon many years back. We are free to seek out employment opportunities in America, as well as education. So military service falls under employment, which by far has better opportunities and benefits then any of those other companies who seek employees here in FSM. So one must wonder, who is a better employer if i am to seek a job opportunity in America, don't you think among those few mentioned, one would most likely to choose the one with better benefits? Right, so there you have it. The military will also pay for your education if you want to pursue a better education.
  4.
Forgot to mention other employers who come to the FSM, Nursing program and Seaworld amusement parks. These are all employment opportunities, not exploitation. Now, back to the military side, our men and women of the military swear under oath to defend The US and it's territories which includes our nation against all enemies foreign and domestic. So rest assure and sleep good at nights that your lil rocks here are protected by the compact of free association and the men and women in US uniform.......WHOOOA!!!!!!
  5.
t tong, come and join the armed forces whenever your ready, ehehe.....i think you have what it takes to defend this nation against her enemies foreign and domestic.......
  6.
    ahahahaha.............keep up the grades first..........whooooa

Hey whatever is positive for your future, right. Each one must start thinking ahead on what's better for him/her individually and you'll find your place in society. Words of advice, "always reach for the moon, and if you fall short, you'll land among the stars", I always believe. Remember that.

We must think twice that the FSM has never been in any war to anyone out there or to any unknown nation. In my own understanding, FSMers only fight a war centuries ago for two reasons, Land or Food, or if the blood of any relative is shed. Another reason is if someone from another clan is offending us. I see there is no Iraqi or Afghans stealing or taking away our land or food or shed a blood of any of our relatives but yet FSMers are going out there hurting them or even taking their lives. Of course it is true that the US is the One that freed our ancestors from their enemies (Spanish,Germans, and Japanese).Because of greed, they are fighting over someone else's land which is not theirs but our ancestors' and ours. But yet we are making friends with (them)Japanese, Germans and perhaps Spanish. Why do we make friend with them while we do know that they were the ones (or if not them), their ancestors who stole our land, enslaved and killed our ancestors?
Yet, we are sending out our loved ones to take the risk and face the dangers out there killing innocent people without any trespasses that they made to us or our ancestors. Sometimes they are send back in coffin with the so-called RedWhiteAndBlue on top. Why is there an American flag on top but not the BLUE with Four White Star? Because they are fighting for the US not the FSM where they are historically, biologically, uniquely, and identically from.

If the US has a war with the Germans, Spanish, and Japanese, I will fight for them because I know there's a reason why I should fight. It is because their ancestors enslaved my ancestors and now it is time for the new generations to fight a fair fight.

Rengaw, I appreciate your point and your stance. However, most of you and of course your very self, Rengaw, can never understand the concept of Soldiering until you in my shoes and walk it. You see, that's the misconception you have there that Military fight wars only. On the contrary, military also fight natural disasters, humanitarian aids, hunger as well as war in defense of liberty foreign and domestic. So, that covers like you said, Iraq and Afghan also, and including the FSM. We are protected by the US Military to make sure that there will be no more foreign invaders like before.

Correction on your comment, yes FSM has been in war and seen the horrors of war. WWII actually took place here and else where. We may not be the ones waging the war, but war came to us and we were involved deeply. We were at end of the wrath getting every blow to our lands and people. Correction once again, we are not sending our "loved ones" to war, for this is a volunteer military, in which you ask and sign up voluntarily. No pressure on anybody. And until you know fully in detail of the intelligence findings on this war, then come correct on your negative attacks on the men and women in uniform. With all due respect. Oh by the way, take tomorrow (11/11/2010) Veterans Day off, compliment of me and many others past and present that have make your lives a lil saver and that makes you sleep good at nights.

    SolVet,
    Iheng keipweni...

I may agree with you rarely on your good explanations.

I further understand that you signed up voluntarily but when you're in the Booth camp, they own you with orders given to be followed obediently.

They'll do this until your contract is finished. You're lucky if you walk out alive.

From a christian point of view, the military is not a good option. We the people of Micronesia, am sure that we are all Christian; but we all belong to different sect of christianity(catholicS, protestantS,baptistS etc..) Christian, means the follower of christ. as christian, we are to follow his way, his teachings.JESUS taught the way of peace and love. no where in the bible will you ever see jesus's saying that killing is acceptable. a christian who claims to kill for christianity is not a christian at all. he who helps in kiling is commiting sin; the sin of taking life. even if you are just the cook, or a mechanic in the military. you are sinning, you kill! A cook, prepares food for the killers to eat and to get energy back to able to kill again. A mechanic, fix their vehicles and the vehicles are then operational for killing. these are just few reasons.you can name many other. pilate says, "i am washing my hands to show that i am clean of this mans death."but he didn't know that he is still responsible for jesus's death. amen!

I respect the Military. I respect their intuitions because they are providing safety for us and the people world-wide! Without war, there can never be peace! It's almost like a negative without a positive, minus without plus, male without female, antagonist without the protagonist, dark without light, it's nature! Start from day 1 to zillions years from now!
