I have been working in the office for nearly eight years. every year we do update on the so-called IDP without knowing the major purpose of doing this other than for the students and advisor to know what course the student should take . Actually this a list of courses presented to student to take. Most likely it is a form that has all course requirements for the degree and certificate program. The question is how much weight of important this carry? What if a student does not have this form but only follow the courses brescribed in the general catalog for each respective program? is there any major differences here. What about the teachers who also have this IDP? How long will the poor teachers fulfill these requirements, if one say within ten years why ten?

Here is what's going to happen to Chuuk Campus when students don't have IDP.

Day of Registration: A student comes in to register, the registration folks don't know what courses he or she has taken. The student will be sent to his or her advisors just to hit another wall. The student returns to the registration line demanding services not run arounds. Staff at the registration have two choices; look for the student's transcript in the file of thousands or just take the student's word for it. If you choose the first choice, the process will take up 30 minutes per student in a fine day. Let's say you have 24 hours of registration, at the end of the day you will be able to register 48 students. If you take the second choice, the rate of registration will flow as planned. However, at the end of all the chaos, you will find out that you trust the students too much. You will find out that you will have to redo your registration all over again while there is pressure from the program folks demanding final class lists. On top of that, most of the students fail prerequisite courses leading to FAO and Business Office issues. You will have to meet with Charles and Danny at the end of the semester or school year because you will have a high rate of uncollectables.

Individual Develop Plan (IDP) is simply an unofficial transcript shared among Records, Advisors and Students. A shared developing document that acts as a check and balance among these parties. Yes, the exact duplicate of the programs can be found in the general catalog. The major difference is IDP is documented, updated and shared among all the parties.

Advisors should only keep the active files. Advisors are usually assigned with advisees at the beginning of the school year or the semester. These assigned students are part of the active file. Returning students after approval of reapplication are usually dealt with on a case by case. They are assigned new advisors if their former advisors no longer work for the College. The Campus OARecords provides a new updated IDP for returning students even those after 10 years. So please tell your faculty that they may keep their copies for 10 years if they want to, but it's not necessary.

My advice, my friend, stay with the program, continue issuing and updating your IDP. Trust me, it's a better choice.

I agree...Update the IDP...some classes still show up on the IDP but its not been offered for quite a while...Can we make substitutions for classes??? How and under whose approval??

A student is expected to satisfy all College degree requirements -- i.e., General Education Core Requirements and Major Requirements -- that were in effect when the student first scheduled a class after his or her admission or most recent re-enrollment as a degree candidate. A student wishing permission to deviate in any way from his or her program requirements must have recommendation from the academic advisor and the Director for Academic Programs or Director for Vocational Programs, and approval from the VP for Instructional Affairs. These should be obtained prior to enrollment in the course being proposed for substitution.

The following is the procedure for requesting course substitution: (1) get the request for Course Substitution from the Office of Admissions and Records, (2) request a copy of your most updated IDP (this will have to be attached to your request for course substitution), (3) see your academic advisor and obtain his or her recommendation, (4) obtain recommendation and approval from the Office of the Director for Academic Programs, or Office of the Director for Vocational Programs, (5) obtain approval from the Office of the VP for Instructional Affairs, and (6) submit the course substitution to the Office of Admissions and Records.

What Jeff said is right. In the first place freshmen dont do their own course selection, the next coming semester as they began to understand the system thats when they do their own course selection or follow the classes require in their idp. Hope am in the point.

Every student has their own IDP or and Individual Degree Program. Without the IDP you cannot transfer to another college or university. The IDP is your Academic Identification to other colleges. Feel free to pick one up at the OAR.

Hey Coconutshell.... I believe you do know what's an IDP or not? if not, i believe that you never see your advisor, because your advisor has one copy of your IDP. And Please do see your advisor so you will and where can you get one copy for you, or any of the students. Like me, i can help you to where you can find where the IDP's located.
