Course Title: Introduction to Cabinet Making/Furniture Making

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES 

General Objective

To introduce students to the role of the cabinetmaker as part of the building industry. Make students aware of safety aspects while working within this industry and provide the students with the underpinning knowledge and skills to identify, manufacture and assemble basic furniture construction joints using hand and power tools.

Specific Objectives

Students will be able to:

1.
 demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibilities of the cabinetmaker in relationship to the building industry.
2.
 describe the environmental impacts on the furniture industry.
3.
 identify skill/trade areas within the cabinet/furniture industry.
4.
 identify, select, use, maintain and store hand tools and equipment used in the manufacture of cabinet/furniture components.
5.
 manufacture a range of furniture construction joints.
