Course Title: Literature of the Sea

 STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

General

To improve the students' understanding of their marine environment in non-scientific terms, and to introduce ( or re-introduce) writing forms used in the study of literature in any English course anywhere.

Specific

To increase students' knowledge of the sea and literary forms by
    (1) reading, studying, and analyzing works by noted authors who have written about the sea; and
    (2) becoming familiar with genre of the ballad, poetry, short stories (including myths and legends), expository travelogues, and the
         novel.
