Course Title: Introduction to Law Enforcement and Security

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

General

This course will introduce students to the underling principles of law enforcement and security services.  Students will gain a detailed understanding of the roles and responsibilities of police and law enforcement personnel in providing safety and security services to the community.  The role of policing and law enforcement within the criminal justice system will be addressed.  A description will be provided of the various strategies adopted by contemporary policing agencies. 

Additionally, students will gather the appropriate skills to conduct the investigation of offenses, the presentation of evidence and testimony to courts and the basis for the need for professional and ethical service delivery.

Specific

The students will be able to:

Describe the history, roles and responsibility of policing.
2. Identify various contemporary policing strategies. 
3. Identify procedures for dealing with complaints.
