[Financial Aid] Use of Pseudo-SSNs for FAFSA Submissions
This serves as a reminder for all returning Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filers to use the subsequent FAFSA Pseudo – Social Security Numbers (SSNs) listed on the resulting 2013-2014 Student Aid Report (SAR) as the SSN value on the 2014-2015 FAFSA.
For example, if a student completes a FAFSA for the first time in 2013-2014 by listing “666” as a SSN, the student should use the ninth-digit pseudo-SSN listed on the resulting 2013-2014 Student Aid Report (SAR) as the SSN value on the 2014-2015 FAFSA (as well as on the FAFSA for any future cycles, going forward).
Currently, the Financial Aid Office advises first time FAFSA filers who do not have assigned SSNs, to enter “666” for the first three digits of the SSN and leave the remaining digits blank. The Central Processing System (CPS) then assigns the student a new nine-digit pseudo-SSN that begins with “666” when the application is processed.
