National Campus Hosts UNESCO’s World Science Day for Peace and Development

Palikir, Pohnpei (November 14, 2013) – The college’s National campus hosted the celebration of UNESCO’s World Science Day for Peace and Development through a forum lecture on November 13, 2014. 

Facilitated by Mr. Augustine Kohler, Acting Director of FSM’s National Archives and Historic Preservation Office, the lecture was attended by close to 100 participants, which included students, faculty and staff of the college.

The forum featured a panel that discussed the theme as it related to each individual’s profession. There were 6 presenters, and among them were 3 COM-FSM graduates. 

According to the Uni Yamase, College Chief of Staff; “The forum was well attended by a good number of students, staff, and faculty. It was a very successful forum, which presented great interest from the college community.

One of the many highlights of the presentation was having COM-FSM graduates sharing their educational and career success after gaining their degrees from this very institution.

These presenters were:

Mr. Alex Nanpei- Civil Engineer- Pohnpei Utilities Corporation (COM-FSM alumnus)

Mr. Eugene Joseph- Director, Conservation Society of Pohnpei (COM-FSM alumnus)

Mr. Bradely Phillip- Chief Researcher, National Oceanic Resource Management Authority (COM-FSM alumnus)

Mr. Fenno Brunken- Climate Change Advisor, Secretariat of the Pacific Community

Dr. Rufino Mauricio- Anthropologist and Secretary of the FSM Department of Education

Dr. Lisa Kohler- FSM Department of Health & Social Affairs

The next forum lecture will be on November 27, 2013, and will be presented by Mr. Jim Tobin of the FSM National Olympic Committee at the MITC Room from 1-2pm.
