President's Message to the Community

Dear Members of the COM-FSM Community,

On March 15, 2013 the college submitted its Follow-Up and Midterm Report to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). The submission of that report was followed by a visit of Commission representatives from March 26-28, 2013. On Wednesday, the team concluded its visit. The team will submit a report to the Commission soon and I will have an opportunity to review a draft for factual accuracy. Similar to the timeline last year, the Commission will review the Follow-Up and Midterm Report submitted by the college, and the report submitted by the Commission representatives at the Commission’s June 5, 6, 7, 2013 meeting.

The Commission will notify the college of the action taken after that meeting. Once the college is notified by the Commission of its action, we will publish the Commission action letter and the report submitted by the Commission representatives.

On behalf of the Board of Regents, and most especially our students, I thank each and every one of you for your continued efforts, dedication, support and hard work to address the issues for which the college is on probation, as presented in the Follow-Up and Midterm Report.

Last year, in the July 2, 2012 Commission Action Letter from Dr. Beno, President of the ACCJC, the following was communicated: “The Commission believes that the institution is on a sound path toward improvement…”

I believe we have stayed on this path and will remain on this path as we have embedded Accreditation Standards into the college as our framework for continuous improvement. So, let us continue this important work!

I am also reminded that in remarks delivered during the investiture ceremony on February 6, 2012, “Confronting Challenges…Creating Our Future” I asked that we join together to “confront our challenges and create our future.” This journey is perpetual as there will always be challenges to confront with opportunities to improve. Together, we have come far. Together, we will go further.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. Thank you for all you do for the students we serve.

It is a privilege to serve you as President.

Regards,

Joseph M. Daisy, Ed.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
