Soccer class now available at National Campus

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (February 18, 2013) – Students at the college’s National Campus started taking soccer as the newest addition to the Exercise and Sports Science (ESS) offerings at the campus.

The Fundamentals of Soccer (ESS 102f) course was recently added to the National Campus ESS fundamental courses such as Fundamentals of Basketball and Fundamentals of Softball.

According to Soccer Instructor Vasantha Senarathgoda the course has an enrollment of 17 students. He said that students are learning and practicing fundamentals of soccer such as dribbling, free kicks, goalkeeping, heading, juggling, passing, receiving, shielding, shooting, tackling, throw in, corner kicks and clearance.

Mr. Senarathgoda, a native of Sri Lanka and a staff at the college’s Office of Admissions and Records, is also the founder and coach for the COM-FSM Football Club which was established in 2009. The club was named champions of the Pohnpei Liberation Day 2012 soccer competitions.
