College Holds Hand-Over Ceremony for New Teaching Clinic and Dispensary
Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia – April 3, 2025 – The College of Micronesia-FSM (COM-FSM) officially opened its new Teaching Clinic and Dispensary on the National Campus in Pohnpei on April 3, 2025. A formal ceremony marked the occasion, attended by Pohnpei's Traditional Leaders, government officials, dignitaries, and members of the college community.
The event commenced with a traditional Sakau ceremony, followed by welcoming remarks from Suzanne L. Gallen, Chairwoman of the COM-FSM Board of Regents.
U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Vincent Mut-Tracy emphasized the significance of the project, stating, "Investing in people is the greatest investment we can make together. The clinic will provide modern facilities for the training of healthcare workers, including public health officers, nurses, and community team health assistants."
Pohnpei State Governor Stevenson Joseph highlighted the clinic's impact on accessibility, stating, "This teaching clinic represents progress—it brings medical services closer to those who need them most and strengthens our capacity to provide essential care. It will stand as a beacon of hope for families who have struggled with long travel distances to seek treatment."
This project, a collaborative effort between COM-FSM, the Pohnpei State Department of Health Services, and funded by the US CARES Act, represents a significant investment in the state's healthcare and educational infrastructure. The $5.6 million facility will serve as a vital training ground for future health professionals in the Federated States of Micronesia.
The COM-FSM Teaching Clinic and Dispensary is now operational, providing essential healthcare services to the people of Pohnpei and symbolizing progress, education, and community collaboration.
