CTEC Students Perform On-The-Job Training

Eleven student-trainees were placed at various worksites to perform on-the-job training and earn credits as required to complete VEE250 Cooperative Education, a required course as an elective in the Applied Arts & Science degree in Telecommunication and Electronic Technology.

Seven student trainees were placed at FSM Telecommunication Corporation (FSMTC). Generally, student trainees will work closely with the FSMTC technicians and supervisors to gain first-hand practical skills and real-world job experience.

Two student trainees were placed at the Pohnpei State Department of Education IT Division. The IT Coordinator and staff will work closely and mentor the student-trainees.

Two student trainees will be placed at the COM-FSM IT Division, one at the National Campus and the other at CTEC. The student trainees will work closely with the IT supervisors and technicians.

VEE250 Cooperative Education is generally an on-the-job (OJT) training course that allows students to apply the learned skills in the classroom to an actual working environment. It provides the student, supervisors (employers), and the instructor with a structured learning and working experience, along with a training plan and agreement. At the end of the course, the student-trainees will be evaluated by their respective supervisors according to their performances, which constitutes 60% of the course final grade, 20% is based on student-trainee daily work log submissions, and 20% is based on the final report of their working experience.

Given the opportunity, a very big thank you to all who we have collaborated with this course since its inception in 2004, including FSMTC, COM-FSM IT Division, Pohnpei State Legislature IT Division, FSM Congress IT Division, NORMA, PPA, PUC, Electronic HiTech and MicroPC.
