College of Micronesia-FSM Delivers Water Relief to Drought-Stricken Fais Island

An effective collaboration has emerged in the face of a severe drought gripping the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), particularly devastating the outer islands of Yap State. Communities like Fais Island have been enduring months without necessities like drinking water. Recognizing the dire circumstances, the Pacific Missionary Aviation (PMA) launched a relief effort through its Facebook page, appealing for donations to support the affected community.

The Cooperative Research and Extension (CRE) of the College of Micronesia-FSM (COM-FSM),
recognizing the plight of their clients, saw an opportunity to help and generously donated 250 gallons of water to PMA. "In a show of support to our clients and communities," stated Steven Young-Uhk, COM-FSM's Vice President for CRE: "We donated 250 gallons of water to assist the people of Fais Island during this difficult time". PMA graciously agreed to transport the donated water to Fais Island free of cost on several relief flights. Furthermore, to ensure a sustainable solution, they requested the return of the empty bottles for refills and continued shipments until the drought subsides.

This donation was made possible through the international cooperation project between the Government
of Italy and the FSM's Department of Environment, Climate Change & Emergency Management. The
College of Micronesia-FSM Cooperative Research and Extension would like to thank the Italian Ministry of
Environment and Energy Security for funding and the PMA for generously facilitating free water transport.
This collaborative effort exemplifies the strength found in partnerships during times of hardship.
