F4 Marketing Blitz – Spring ‘18

Palikir, Pohnpei (April 20, 2018) - Students of Principles of Marketing (BU270 ) participated in their very first marketing blitz last Thursday to promote the Food & Fashion Friday Festival (F4). Students traveled around Palikir and Kolonia visiting government offices, schools, and local businesses seeking support for the F4 event.
The class had been tasked with promoting this semester's F4 event, in which the theme was Fusing Forces for FSM’s Future. As a part of this endeavor, they looked at the different forces that have a role and responsibility for forging the FSM into the future and determined that the government, academic, and private business sectors were those forces.
In keeping with this theme, students were actively engaged in promoting the F4 event in the following ways:
- Visiting local government offices in Palikir and Kolonia such as the Office of the President, Department of Resource & Development, Department of Education, Governor’s Office, and Kolonia Town Mayor’s Office soliciting either participation in the event or a contribution to the event,
- Visiting local schools such as Pohnpei Island Central School (PICS), Calvary Christian Academy (CCA), Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), and Our Lady of Mercy (OLM) to distribute handouts for students to take home to promote the event, and
- Posting flyers around Kolonia business bulletin boards to promote the event.
Students were provided a wonderful opportunity to get first-hand experience in promoting an event to supplement what they learned in class. They created flyers, handouts, a Facebook page, contacted radio stations, and decorated signs for vendors and other items.
To connect all these activities to Learning Outcomes, Business Division Program Learning Outcome 1 was addressed by emphasizing the importance of marketing in an organization and how it is interrelated in the organization's achievement of objectives. Course Level Student Learning Outcome 3 was also addressed by the implementation of a marketing plan along with promotion strategies.
