World Diabetes Day 2017
The World Diabetes Day 2017 will be commemorated with this year’s theme, “Women and diabetes-Our right to a healthy future.” The organizing committee in collaboration with Health Science Division, Medpharm Clinic and Pharmacy, Pohnpei Public Health Division and others have planned activities to increase public awareness about the effects of diabetes and ways to prevent and control it. These activities are planned to be carried out at the College’s National and CTEC Campuses on Friday, November 24, 2017 respectively from 8:30AM-2:30PM. Activities include a short program to open the event’s activities with a special presentations based on the theme. After the program, activities will continue with:
- Health screenings for diabetes, hypertension and obesity;
- Eye/vision examinations;
- Oral/dental examinations;
- Administration of the seasonal influenza vaccinations and deworming medications;
- Blood typing/grouping;
- Healthy food preparation demonstrations;
- Aerobic exercise demonstrations;
- Distribution/dissemination of information, education and communication (IEC) materials;
- Table of refreshments of healthy local fruits, veggies and drinks; and
- Raffles with prizes.
The event’s activities will be closed with a “march” against diabetes. Registration will start at 8:00AM and actual march will begin at 1:00 PM. T-shirts will be given out for the first 100 finishers.
