Adaptive Community Transformation on Yap

Colonia, Yap (July 30, 2017) - The Cooperative Research and Extension (CRE), College of Micronesia-FSM, Yap Campus embarked on a new project – Adaptive Community Transformation (ACT) on Yap - in partnership with Catholic Relief Services. This collaborative project aims to enhance the capacity of vulnerable communities to prepare for and recover from frequent natural hazards. The project will engage all stakeholders as well as individual households to build capacity on emergency preparedness planning and early warning systems, establishing a functioning system at higher levels and creating demand and awareness at lower levels.
The project adheres to the four priorities of action stipulated in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (Sendai Framework) which Pacific Leaders endorsed in 2016 during the 47th Pacific Island Forum meeting in the Federated States of Micronesia under the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific 2016-2030. It is the world’s first integrated regional framework to build resilience to climate change and disasters.
ACT on Yap project will address three priority sectors, namely i) Risk Management Policy and Practice, ii) Agriculture and Food Security, and iii) Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
This program is funded by the US Agency for International Development’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance through Catholic Relief Services. Please contact Dr. Muru at 350-5752 or Ms. Tara McCaw, CRS Program Manager at 350-2388 for more details.
