Experiential Learning Visit
(Palikir, Pohnpei ) June 2, 2017 - Twelve students majoring in agriculture from Palau Community College (PCC), University of Guam (UOG), American Samoa Community College (ASCC), University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), and the college's Kosrae Campus are visiting Pohnpei for an Experiential Learning program.
The activity is funded through the USDA Resident Instruction in the Insular Areas (RIIA). Annually this activity is hosted by each of the Caribbean and Pacific institutions to provide first-hand experience in agriculture and food technology. The college is hosting the program for the first time..
The visit will begin next week with students arriving on June 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. Kick off is Friday, June 9th with an assembly at MITC. The group will visit different agencies; NGOs; farms; produce market; food preparation, preservation, processing; farms visits, and hands-on activities including castration of young boars, milling breadfruit into flour, harvesting cassava and making measurements and collecting data.
Students will also be visiting tourist attractions around the island.
