National Campus Holds Soccer Field Inauguration

Palikir, Pohnpei (February 17, 2017) – The college held a opening ceremony for the National Campus Soccer field on February 16, 2017. Jointly funded by the Government of Japan and college, the soccer field is the only one in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) that meets the acceptable international standards in terms of size.

The field was funded and constructed in support of the prevention of non-communicable diseases in the FSM. College President and CEO Joseph M. Daisy, extended the college’s appreciation to the Government of Japan, and to Japanese Ambassador, His Excellency Ryoichi Horie, for the project that will help promote sports and  healthy lifestyles in the combat of preventable diseases. 

A friendly game between COM-FSM Football Club (FC) vs Pohnpei Soccer Association team took place after the formal program of the ceremony.

Dignitaries and Government officials present at the ceremony included FSM Secretary of Education Kalwin Kephas, FSM Secretary of Foreign Affairs  Lorin Robert, and Lieutenant Governor of Pohnpei Reed Oliver. From the college former FSM President and now Director of Institutional Advancement & External Affairs, Mr. Manny Mori, Chairman of the Board of Regent Dr. Tulensru Waguk, Regent Kasio Mida, Regent Churchill Edward, students, and members of staff and faculty.
