College Celebrates 64th Commencement Exercises
Palikir, Pohnpei (December 16, 2016) – The College celebrated its 64th Commencement Exercises on Thursday December 15, 2016, at the FSM China Friendship Sports Center.
“A smooth Sea Never Made a Skilled Sailor” was the theme that saw 141 graduates march before the more 500 attendees that included dignitaries and leaders of the community. The ceremony combined graduated from the National and Pohnpei Campuses.
Guest speaker at this year's commencement was alumnus and Assistant Director of Marine and Environmental Research Institute of the Pacific (MERIP), Ms. Jasmine Mendiola. In addressing the graduates Ms. Mendiola shared “life after College can very challenging, you will be experiencing failures, rejections, and disappointments. Use this negativity to fuel your desire to become successful in life.”
Among the 141 students that graduated eight graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in
Elementary Education from the University of Guam. Twelve students also graduated from the College's Chuuk Campus, four from Kosrae Campus, and seven from Yap Campus.
The top two academic honors were given to valedictorian Stewart Johnny and salutatorian Regina Moya.
