National Campus to Commemorate World Diabetes Day 2016
Palikir, Pohnpei (November 7,2016) – The College’s National Campus is set to commemorate World Diabetes Day 2016 on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 8:30AM-3:00PM in front of the LRC.
With the theme, “Eyes on Diabetes”, the organizing committee in collaboration with the Medpharm Clinic and Pharmacy, Island Community Food of Pohnpei, the Public Health Division and others have planned activities to increase the public awareness about diabetes and ways to prevent and control it.
Activities during the day includes :
- A short ceremony is held to open the day’s activities with a special presentation given by the Public Health students. This will begin 9:00AM and it will be held in front of the LRC. After the program the day’s activities will continue with
- Health screenings for diabetes, hypertension and obesity,
- Administration of the seasonal influenza vaccinations and deworming medications
- Eye refraction/vision tests
- Oral/dental examinations
- Blood typing/grouping
- Cooking demonstration and preparation of healthy food/meals
- Demonstration of aerobic/zumba exercise
- Distribution/dissemination of information, education and communication (IEC) materials
- Table of healthy refreshments of healthy local fruits, veggies and drinks.
- The day’s activities will be closed with a “march” against Diabetes to be organized and held on National Campus. Registration for the march will begin at 8:00AM and actual march will begin at 1:00 PM. Small towels will be given out for the first 200 finishers.
