COO of FSMTC Visits Electronics and Telecommunication Students at Pohnpei Campus
Kolonia, Pohnpei (September 30, 2014) The Chief Operation Officer of FSM Telecommunication Corporation (FSMTC), Mr. Freddy Perman, visited the Telecommunication and Electronic students at the College’s Pohnpei Campus on September 22, 2014.
The visit was to provide a brief perspective of FSMTC regarding current and the near-future technology, successes, challenges, and to encourage the students to remain focused in their field of study.
Prior to the talk by Mr. Perman, a brief presentation of the degree programs in Telecommunication and Electronics was presented by Professor Nelchor Permitez. Using NIDA, student Yushimi Saimon demonstrated integrated telecommunication systems. Students Neal Donovan James and Hainrick Talley gave a demonstration on Career Technical Education (CTE) servicing for electronic programs.
Generally, CTE servicing is the mechanism in place that provides Technology & Trades (T&T) programs, including the electronic programs, the opportunity for students to directly apply learned skills in an actual work setting.
Mr. Perman introduced various technologies that FSMTC is currently implementing. These included Digital Terrestrial Television (DTTV), 3G (“third generation” type of access technology), and the Google O3B project. O3B stands for “other 3 billion” which refers to most poorly connected areas of broadband including the FSM. The OB3 network uses medium-Earth orbit (MEO) satellite and FSMTC is currently installing this type of satellite in Yap State.
Mr. Perman inspired the students using his own educational journey as what he has gained to be knowledgeable, productive, and competitive as the Chief Operation Officer of FSMTC. He offered the students with a simple message and that is to “stay in school,” and go all the way to achieve your dreams. At the conclusion of his speech, he made a personal offer of awarding the top graduate of the Telecommunication program of this fall 2014 semester with an iPhone 6. To show the College’s appreciation Mr. Perman was presented with small gift bag.
