Miami Hip-Hop Sound Coming to National Campus
Palikir, Pohnpei (September 15, 2014) - The U.S. Embassy is proud to sponsor “Dangerflow”, a hip-hop group from Miami Florida. The College is hosting a concert at the FSM-China Friendship Center this Friday, September 19 at 5 PM. The concert is free and open to all COM-FSM Students, Alumni, Staff, Faculty, and their families. One person in each group must have a COM-FSM ID card.
The band will be on island for 6 days, from September 18 to 24. During that time they will participate in a number of youth workshops and perform two additional free public concerts.
Dangerflow has been perfecting their signature fusion of hip-hop, rock, and danceable rhythms since 2007. In 2009, Dangerflow established a partnership with the Miami Heat developing promotional videos and performing at Miami Heat games, including the NBA Finals. Dangerflow’s debut album, “Win Lose or Die”, released in 2011, featured popular singles that were aired on several networks including MTV and ESPN, as well as at the Monster Energy/X Games, NBA Finals, and Australian Open Tennis Championship.
Dangerflow’s newest album, “Fall Before You Fly”, will be released in the fall of 2014. Dangerflow was selected by the State Department for its diverse cultural heritage and its support of social causes that empower communities. The group’s mission is to reach young people and share positive messages about life in the United States
The Public is invited to two free concerts: Saturday September 20, 4 PM at the Nanpei Memorial Ball Field, and Tuesday September 23, 5 PM at the Spanish Wall Park.
The public concerts will also feature local talent and musicians, including music by Micro Family. All shows will be performed rain or shine. They will conduct workshops designed to raise awareness about social issues that youth face today. The workshops will also cover the history of hip-hop and its social impact within the United States and internationally.
For students coming from Pohnpei Campus a special trip will be provided at 4:30 PM from Pohnpei Campus to National Campus, and then 7:00 PM, National Campus to Pohnpei Campus.
