The Institutional Researcher plays a vital role in supporting a culture of evidence-based planning, continuous improvement, and informed decision-making across the College of Micronesia-FSM. The Researcher is responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of quantitative and qualitative data related to the College's academic programs, student outcomes, institutional effectiveness, and strategic goals.
The position is instrumental in producing institutional reports, dashboards, and studies that inform planning, accreditation, budgeting, student services, academic program review, and policy development. The Researcher ensures that data is accurate, reliable, and accessible to stakeholders at all levels of the institution. The incumbent will collaborate closely with academic departments, administrative units, and senior leadership to identify data needs, design research methodologies, and present actionable insights that contribute to institutional goals, compliance reporting, and strategic initiatives.
This role also supports ongoing accreditation requirements, internal and external reporting obligations, and institutional assessments, and plays a key part in advancing the College’s strategic priorities such as student success, operational efficiency, and educational quality. The Institutional Researcher must be adept at handling large datasets, using statistical and visualization tools, and communicating complex information clearly to non-technical audiences.
Reporting to the IT Director, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design and implement research studies to support institutional planning, policy development, program evaluation, and decision-making.
- Collect, clean, analyze, and interpret data related to student enrollment, retention, graduation, course success, faculty workload, and other institutional metrics.
- Maintain and update institutional dashboards, fact books, and internal/external data reports.
- Support the development and monitoring of the College's strategic plan, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs).
- Prepare timely submissions of mandatory external reports (e.g., IPEDS, ACCJC, FSM NDOE).
- Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to design surveys and assess performance outcomes.
- Provide training and support to college personnel on data use, interpretation, and visualization.
- Ensure data governance practices are followed, including data accuracy, privacy, and security.
- Participate in accreditation reporting, self-evaluation processes, and institutional assessment initiatives.
- Stay informed on national and regional trends in institutional research and higher education.
- Master’s degree in statistics, education, social science, economics, data science, or related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in institutional research, data analysis, or related work in an educational setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency with data analysis software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R, or Power BI).
- Strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
- Experience with student information systems, survey tools, and database management.
- Knowledge of accreditation processes (e.g., ACCJC) and educational performance indicators.
