Duties:
Under the supervision of the maintenance specialist, the incumbent is responsible for the general maintenance of the campus buildings, grounds, vehicles and minor equipments in the areas of carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical. Incumbent is specifically responsible for maintenance of the Botanical Garden [fertilization and pest eradication, preparing monthly reports on activities relating to the garden, water plants, keep record of visitors, etc.] and will serve as tour guide. Incumbent is also responsible for caring for indoor plants, management of the greenhouse daily operation and keeping campus clean and neat. From time to time, incumbent will be asked to help in the design of campus landscape projects. Perform other related duties a maybe assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must complete high school. Two year college education preferred. Two years of progressively responsible work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance, gardening and repair work as described above. Three years of work related experience is preferred. Knowledge of: general maintenance and gardening practices, report preparation and local plants. Ability to: write and speak in English, learn and retain information, follow instruction orally and in writing, demonstrated honesty and good work ethics, ability to carry out work assignments with minimal supervision, demonstrated team work spirit and successful relationships with co-workers and superiors. Knowledge of local plants in Pohnpei with some of their English scientific names is a plus.
