- Follow precise and preplanned schedules and must adjust driving according to traffic and weather conditions in order to arrive at each stop at the designated time and safely;
- Complete a comprehensive written inspection of the bus daily; report any conditions of concern to the supervisor before transporting students.
- Drive carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations.
- Ensure that the bus has always has sufficient fuel.
- Ensure communication devise [e.g. two-way radio, cellular phone) is in proper working order before each trip.
- Follow safe bus loading and unloading procedures.
- Keep the bus clean and free of debris; follow other bus cleaning procedures.
- Routinely inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment, report needs to the supervisor.
- In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuate students/passengers according to written/established practices/procedures.
- In an event of an accident, assure the medical emergency procedures are followed; complete a written accident report to supervisor.
- Assume responsibility for the safety of passenger in loading and unloading and transporting.
- Instructor passengers in safety precautions and practices.
- Signal passengers when to cross street or road.
- Maintain discipline on the bus.
- Provide written and oral incident reports to supervisor.
- Serve on relevant committees and perform other duties as assigned.
- Vision in both eyes, cannot be a diabetic on insulin.
- Good driving record, no DUI conviction in the past 15 years.
- Auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed.
- Ability to lift 55 pounds unassisted.
- Certified in first aid and CPR.
- Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs.
- Ability to perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies
- Physically fit to sit for 10 hours per day, stoop and squat daily (5 minutes) before each trip to prepare and while clearing, lift, carry, push and climb to drive the bus and conduct pre-trip inspections, etc. Minimum of 2 hours squatting per week when servicing the buses.
- Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- Must have effective organizational problem solving and time management skills.
- Ability to learn and comprehend information from procedure manuals and other materials.
The College of Micronesia-FSM has a zero tolerance policy for drug and alcohol use. Due to the requirements of this position any violation of the policy or any determination of illicit drug or alcohol use or being under the influence of illicit drugs or alcohol will be grounds for immediate termination.
