Duties:
Reporting to the Residence Hall Coordinator, duties include:
  • Serve as a role model for residents in personal and professional behaviors.
  • Demonstrate a consistent willingness to work with individuals from difference race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation and religion.
  • Create and maintain positive professional relationships within the department and across the college community
  • Be available and accessible to residents by making a strong commitment to be present on the hall.
  • Respond to students needs and refer students to appropriate departments for assistance. Help students on academic, personal and social matters within area of skill and ability.
  • Assist in the management of crisis and report emergencies or serious illnesses. Be informed and able to instruct residents regarding the evacuation procedures during life threatening emergencies, natural calamities or disaster.
  • Develop and carry out hall activities to promote a sense of community within the hall and college community.
  • Maintain the student living condition by educating and encouraging students to respect the physical unit (neatness and safety), to maintaining a reasonable noise level, and to respect the rights of other students and handle the situation in accordance with college policy.
  • Keep students informed about the college through meetings, posters, flyers and general use of bulletin board.
  • Maintain appropriate student records and compile reports as needed or requested.
  • Utilize a variety of communication channels to interact with students.
  • Help residents understand their rights and responsibilities as community members by explaining and enforcing policies and procedures through meetings and other methods.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings, in-service training programs, workshops off and on campus related to skill and program development.
  • Cultivate a positive and engaging living environment that fosters a sense of belonging and enables students to build positive relationships with one another.
  • Utilize institutional data to assess and respond to student needs.
  • Identify critical issues, assess student behavior and communicate effectively with supervisor to formulate response (educational and student conduct) to student concerns.
  • Assist in providing new students orientation every semester.
  • Work cooperatively with other college offices such as Facilities and Maintenance, Campus Security and Safety in response to day-to-day functioning of the halls. Address safety concerns, custodial and maintenance concerns.
  • Assist in student check-in, check-out, and room changes; assist with room condition reports and damage billing processes.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional professional development activities.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or other student services department heads.
  • Able to work on any ship or work schedule that is performed in rotation during the day, night and early morning.
  • Serve on committees and perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:

An Associate's degree in education, psychology or a similarly related field from a US accredited institution with at least two years of work experience involving direct contract with students in a residential setting or similar setting. Evidence of work experience that included event planning, report writing, organization, etc. Experience with emergency repose and crisis management. Special Skills, Abilities and Knowledge: Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Skills in crisis intervention, directing and enforcing policies and regulations which pertain to campus life and to student development. Adept communication in person and in digital communications (email, social media, etc.). Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to manage multiple tasks and effectively prioritize among competing needs. Must work within and support the guidelines and regulations of COM-FSM. Must have knowledge of preparing reports (incident, inventory, etc.)Be able to maintain professional and effective working relationship with staff and students. Demonstrate commitment to student success.

Preferred Qualifications: Higher education administration, or related field from a US accredited institution of higher education and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff; and outstanding administrative, technology, training, supervisory skills. Certified to drive Class E vehicle. Ability to apply learning outcome approaches preferred.
