Duties:

Reporting to the Dining Hall Manager, the assistant supervisor will carry out the responsibilities:

  • Supervising responsibilities include overseeing staff in the unit in the absence of the manager, assign duties, enforce policies and procedures, prepare and monitor work schedule, take necessary and immediate disciplinary actions within policies, provide training to staff and provide input into employee formal evaluations.
  • Cooking responsibilities include ordering food products and supplies, prepare for approval weekly menus for nutritious and varied meals, cooking meals when needed. Flexible to meet the needs of students and student organizations, college units and administration.
  • Other duties include assisting in the maintenance of the storage space, maintain the dining hall in a clean and sanitary condition, and serve on committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate with four years of experience in the field of work, of which two years should include experience with menu planning, fiscal record keeping, cooking, purchasing and storage of food and supplies. The other two years shall include experience managing kitchen staff. Must be able to work a varied schedule that will include weekends, early mornings and evenings. Must be able to perform heavy lifting, moving and carrying typical light to heavy objects up to 50 lbs. typical of such work. Provide evidence of valid health certificate to work in the kitchen and with food. Evidence of ability to read, write and speak in English. Must have a valid driver's license. Evidence of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred qualifications:Associate degree from a US accredited college in relevant fields and 2 years of direct work supervising others and high quantity cooking experience and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
