Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Talent Search Program Director, the incumbent will:

  • Design, implement, and manage academic, financial aid, and career counseling services (schedules and calendars) to participants.
  • Design mechanisms or strategies to inform and to promote the program to the DOE, the target schools, parents, and the community.
  • Work closely with target high schools’ principals, teachers, and agencies for better understanding and collaboration.
  • Design and implement strategies and mechanisms to identify, select, and enroll participants in the program.
  • Develop and implement students’ Individualized Academic Plan for every year.
  • Implement Peer Tutoring services to all 8th
  • Implementing high school planning and preparation services to all 8th graders and parents.
  • Providing assistance for re-entry into secondary and postsecondary educations.
  • Implementing College Admissions procedures workshops to all 9th-12th high school students and parents.
  • Implement Mentoring Program for all juniors and seniors in high school.
  • Implement Economic and Financial Literacy workshops to all participants and parents to demystify the inability to afford colleges.
  • Attend seminars and trainings as directed.
  • Coordinate and facilitate seminars for parents and students on college application process and financial aid assistance.
  • Developing and implementing a 6 years tracking mechanism of seniors graduated for BA Degree Completion.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate 45 tutors’ performances. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the director.
  • Serve on relevant committees and perform other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from four year US College accredited college or university in Career Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Science or related field and with at least one (1) year of progressive experience providing education services, counseling or assistance to students or related groups. Foreign credentials must be equated to meet US standards in the field of assignment using World Education Services at http://www.wes.org. Knowledge and experience of strategic planning and problem solving in an educational setting that involves working with middle and high school students and/or have worked with a program similar to Talent Search Program.

Ability and knowledge: Some knowledge/experience in dealing professionally with ethnically diverse low income and first generation students. Must have extensive knowledge and experience in college high school and college advising, peer tutoring, mentoring that supports educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers. Must have broad knowledge of Federal TRIO/Talent Search Program regulations. Possess good leadership skills to work with stakeholders and the Target school leaders and the Pohnpei DOE. Have broad knowledge of K-12 and higher education policies. Must have good communication skills in speaking, writing, listening and reading in English as well as the local language. Software programs: Word, Excel, Power-Point, Publisher, Access, and File-maker Pro.
