Duties:

Under the supervision of the Student Services Coordinator, the student services specialist II:

  • Helps students to ensure that they meet all the financial aid eligibility requirements.
  • Explains to each student his/her rights and obligations relative to the awarding of financial aid.
  • Provides counseling to students who are on financial aid probation and/or students who are not making satisfactory academic progress.
  • Provides financial aid workshops for students, faculty and staff for each semester.
  • Helps prospective students and currently enrolled students in preparing all the necessary forms and documents required by the college for financial aid and admission purposes.
  • Keeps complete students records for financial aid requirements including admissions requirements, programs enrolled in, and other relevant records.
  • Follows up with students with incomplete records to ensure students turn in required documents for financial aid and admissions.
  • Maintains regular communications with the Financial Aid Office, OAR, and Student Support Services Divisions at the National Campus to ensure students have completed records and that they are receiving the services.
  • Works with all the State high schools counselors and teachers to conduct financial aid workshops for high school students and parents to share information about financial aid and other related requirements including admission requirements, etc.
  • Takes a lead role in Work Study Program: coordinating with supervisors and students the policies and procedures; Reviews and processes students’ applications and timesheets before submitting to FAO for final review and processing; Handles job placement of students; Maintains and updates records of each student to ensure students work within allotted budget; Reviews and updates progresses of students to ensure students maintain good academic progress during the semester.
  • Works closely with other programs on campus such as advisors, faculty and other student support services staff to ensure students receive the assistance needed.
  • Provides assistance to students who are transferring to other campuses or colleges by making sure students turn-in/get required documents. Works closely with National Campus to ensure inter-transfer students are maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress, meeting financial aid eligibility and applying for scholarships, and their records are completed.
  • Involves in planning and promoting the college programs to prospective students and the communities in general as part of the ongoing recruitment campaign.
  • Involves in planning and implementing course selection, pre-registration, registration of students each semester.
  • Involves in planning and organizing commencement exercises.
  • Assists in assigning advisors to students each semester and does follow-up to ensure that students receive counseling services on a regular basis.
  • Serves as academic advisors.
  • Provides academic counseling to students on a regular basis to ensure that students successfully complete their programs.
  • Administers entrance test.
  • Assists in job placement of graduates.
  • Assists in planning student activities/extracurricular activities for all students.
  • Assists in planning and advertising courses to be offered each semester
  • Serves as advisor to SBA Officers and student body association.
  • Attends and makes regular reports to the Campus Dean and all supervisors during regular staff meetings.
  • Performs other related duties may be assigned and serves on committees.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in educational counseling, social sciences, or related field from a US accredited college AND at least two years of full time work experience in providing educational services, counseling or other assistance to students or related groups. Software Programs: Proficient in use of office suites, presentation software, spreadsheets, communication and collaboration tools. Special skills, abilities, knowledge and others: Knowledge of college programs and organizations, their purposes and functions; policies and regulations related to field of assignment; techniques and procedures used in academic and personal counseling; principles and practices of modern office management. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff; learn specific techniques to operate effectively and with empathy with youths; plan, schedule and evaluate activities; work with diverse faculty, staff and students; work as part of a team in accomplishing tasks and functions. Or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience, which provides for the above.

Preferred: Experience with US ED’s software: ED connect and ED express. Foreign credentials must be equated to US standards using World Education Services at http://www.wes.org.
