Duties:

Teach and arrange up to 5 engineering classes per semester which include but not limited to Class 5 and Class 6 Engineering Courses, and also assist in teaching and/or supervising other engineering courses including upgrading courses for qualified AB seafarers and other related maritime organization that are required to meet the IMO STCW standards, as well as meeting the goals and objectives of the course as described in the course outlines. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and student learning outcomes/grades, in accordance with COM-FSM regulations and submit records to the Student Services Office after the end of the semester/session. Conduct and/or serve as a shipboard training instructor during assigned shipboard training activities; Participate in one standing committee or provide alternative services to the college and community as specified in Administrative Procedures 6026; may be asked to participate in ad hoc committees. Must attend, participate and/or supervise extra curricula activities as prescribed in the training program. This includes duty officer roster, daily muster, demerits and/or shipboard maintenance activities including other school related activities approved by the College. Ensure that teaching resources are adequate, readily available prior to the commencement of assigned courses and meeting STCW requirement and standard. Advising students. Participate in instructional activities that include meetings, curriculum development and developing procedures for improving current classes to meet the requirements. Participate in assessment activities and professional development. Attend to additional needs of the College or the community as agreed upon by the faculty member in consultation with their supervisor.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned recognized Certificate of Competency as a Class 4 Engineer in accordance with the requirements of the STCW Convention AND eight years of full time equivalent related occupational work experience or four years of full time teaching at the postsecondary level. Certificate shall be in the occupational teaching area or related field.

Knowledge and ability of: Ability and knowledge to be able to work in a cross-cultural situation. Experience with development and assessment of student learning outcomes. Gives evidence of exemplary teaching ability, initiative and interpersonal skills. Cultural sensitivity is essential.
