Under the administrative supervision of the Director of Student Life, the Assistant Director of Student Life is responsible for the effective coordination, delivery, evaluation and refinement of student support services, including but limited to: student government, students’ organizations, student events and activities, student discipline, residence life, sports and recreation, and health services. The Assistant Director of Student Life will work closely with the Director of Student Life and student services staff college wide, to ensure that all programs and activities are in alignment with outcomes for student success as identified by the college.

Duties:

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Work closely with the Director of Student Life in planning, developing, organizing, and administering college-wide culturally and student focused programs and activities that promote greater involvement for all students, and integrate student learning outcomes reflecting the college’s mission, vision, core values, and strategic directions/objectives, and institutional student learning outcomes.
  2. Oversee and supervise enrollment management and support services personnel and units at Career & Technical Education Center (CTEC) in coordination and collaboration with relevant unit directors and/or supervisor.  These units or offices include health services, admissions and records, financial aid, counseling and tutorial services, sports and recreation, and security and safety.
  3. Work closely with the CTEC Director in preparing annual budgets for enrollment management & student services units at CTEC, including recommendations and justifications regarding budget requests, and monitoring/or managing budgets.
  4. Assist the Director of Student Life in overseeing and supervising student life programs and services at the State Campus and the FSM Fisheries & Maritime Institute, such as health services, student activities, student leadership and development, sports and recreational activities, and others.
  5. Coordinate events, prepare and plan forum lectures, conferences, workshops and training for students or related to students, and expand these activities to all campuses.
  6. Provide support and guidance to Student Body Associations (SBAs) and student organizations at all campuses in planning, preparing for, and executing activities and events, which support the goals and objectives of the SBAs and student organizations.
  7. Assist the Director of Student Life in student discipline and adjudication procedures, including providing intervention for students' disciplinary issues; developing appropriate programs to promote positive behavior; monitoring, developing and implementing student behavioral contracts.
  8. Oversee process of developing new student organizations and facilitate meetings of student leaders to communicate programming, policies, and address issues.
  9. Assist the Director of Student Life in developing student-learning outcomes and oversee ongoing, comprehensive assessment and review of Student Life and all related activities.  Coordinate assessments relating to SBAs and student organizations’ activities.
  10. Assist the Director of Student Life in preparing annual budgets including recommendations and justifications regarding budget requests, and monitoring/or managing student related budgets.
  11. Develop and maintain statistics on student events through various methods of data collection to measure efficiency of programs and services, and identify or determine needs of students.
  12. Work closely and effectively with other college departments, academic programs and administrative units to actively contribute on initiatives and efforts designed to foster student success, attract and retain students, and deliver quality student support services and activities.
  13. Deal regularly with and represent the college with a variety of individuals and groups within the community, in carrying out various public relations and promotional activities, coordinating and scheduling student activities and programs, including forum lectures.
  14. Serve on committees and perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from a US accredited college in higher education administration, student affairs or related field. Foreign credentials must be equated to US standards using World Education Services at http://www.wes.org. At least four years of work experience in student support services, student affairs, counseling and advising or related experience in a higher education environment. Working knowledge of computer and various computer software applications such as word processing and spreadsheets (Microsoft, Adobe, etc.).  Special Skills, Abilities and Knowledge: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to participate as an effective team member, as well as the ability to work independently using good judgment and analytical skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff and the general public. Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage work concurrently. Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions. Working knowledge of social media for communication with students and dissemination of information. Demonstrated commitment to student success.

Preferred Qualification:
A master’s degree, five or more years of work experiences, and ability to direct the work of others.
