Duties:

Under the supervision of the U-24 Pacific Islanders Cohort on Cardiometabolic Health Research Project Coordinator, and such supervisory staff as the Project Coordinator shall assign, the incumbent Research Assistant shall fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Meet on a regular basis with supervisory personnel to discuss assigned duties, and to make corrective action plans as needed
  • Attend project meetings as required by supervisory personnel
  • Request and/or acquire equipment and supplies as necessary for the project
  • Prepare required reporting materials for submission to agency responsible for the grant, as well as other agencies as identified
  • Demonstrate a high degree of cultural competency and respect to research subjects and their communities
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism toward study staff and supervisory personnel in performing their duties
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a program of key informant interviews, including identification of subjects, collection of contact and other personal information for subjects, and scheduling of interviews with subjects, either in person or vial telephone
  • Travel to field sites to collect informed consent from subjects, including explanation of study protocols and consent procedures as established by the study protocol
  • Collection and recording of data from key informant interviews as appropriate to the specific objectives of the study, and in accordance with the predetermined study research protocols
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records/transcripts of interviews in electronic or handwritten format, with an emphasis on ensuring the confidentiality of both subjects and their responses, and the completeness of data
  • Using specified protocols established in accordance with standards of data management, code quantitative and/or qualitative data according to pre-established categories; and entry of such coded data into computer database programs and/or spreadsheets
  • Review and edit data to ensure completeness and accuracy of information, including following-up with subjects to resolve issues or clarify completeness of data
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel
Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum qualification shall be an Associates of Science (AS) degree in a health-related field from a US accredited college. Two years of work experience in the field of health research.

Specific abilities and knowledge:

  • The incumbent should have the ability to write and understand reports and documents written in English;
  • The incumbent should have effective verbal communication skills, such as would be required to speak in public meetings, research project presentation, or to the media
  • The incumbent shall be available for a field work schedule that may include evenings and weekends; and,
  • The incumbent should be physically capable of working for an extended period of time in field conditions, with varying weather and travel conditions.
