Under the supervision of the researcher, the position will provide these services:
- Prepare composts and carry out weeding, digging, land preparation, planting, harvesting, and other field works in relation to agriculture research.
- Prepare soil mixtures for pot plants, plant seeds or seedlings in pots, apply compost and fertilizers, set up piping for hydroponics, and other nursery, greenhouse, and hydroponic works.
- Measure soil pH, plant height, weight of harvested produce, and other measurements in relation to agriculture research.
- Work with motorized equipment for grass cutting, land preparation for planting, etc.
- Assist in sourcing planting materials and supplies needed for projects,
- Work with and assist laborers hired for specific tasks,
- Be responsible for safe keeping and maintenance of all research tools and equipment, including keeping research vehicle clean.
- Submit a list of activities undertaken and status of tools and equipment on a monthly basis, and perform other duties as assigned from time to time including serving on committees.
High School Graduate with at least two years of experience involving farming or crop growing experience. Have interest and willingness to receive on-the-job training on research methods; ability to communicate effectively in English and Pohnpeian orally and in writing, and valid driver’s license required. Knowledge of experiment research procedures and experience using the computer preferred.
