Duties:

The manager of the residence halls is a full-time, professional, with a primary responsibility for the students and operation of the college’s non-coed residence hall housing 212 residents.   Reporting directly to the director of student life, the manager of the residence halls is responsible for the general management, supervision of staff, counseling of residents, and overall student programming within the residence halls.  Specific responsibilities or functions include, but by any means not limited to:

  1.  Be responsible for administrative, management, and personnel functions of the residence halls, including student development functions.
  2. Be responsible for selection, training, development, supervision, and evaluation of residence halls staff, and if applicable, resident assistants.
  3. Provide personal assistance to resident students in areas of advising, counseling, crisis intervention, and discipline.  Follow up on all major discipline in an educational and timely manner with appropriate documentation: conduct discipline meetings, initiate discipline letters and referrals.  Refer all counseling concerns to appropriate resources and maintain thorough documentation.
  4. Be responsible for general orientation of resident students, and the coordination of all procedures to ensure the effective opening and closing of the residence halls at the appropriate time throughout the academic year.
  5. Be responsible for the development and coordination of residence halls programs and activities of an educational, cultural, social and recreational nature.
  6. Be responsible for becoming personally acquainted with residents so as to be a referral source to faculty and staff, and other divisions or units within the department of Enrollment Management and Student Services.
  7. Provide counsel to formal student groups including the residence halls organization, and other student groups within the residence halls.
  8. Be responsible for management and supervision of the helpdesk (reception desk) area of the residence halls including the coordination of information, recreational equipment, and mail distribution, if applicable.
  9. Coordinate and follow through on all records pertaining to the overall maintenance of the facility to include preparation of maintenance work orders, assessment of damages, control of keys, and recommendation of general and long-range building improvement.
  10. Be responsible for approving all room changes within the residence halls as well as maintaining all related required records such as room change forms, and building rosters.
  11. Initiate efforts to help other parties or groups (faculty, parents, and administrators) to understand life in the residence halls.
  12. Provide leadership to staff and students in the development of community environment based upon consideration for the rights, property, privileges of one another, and as necessary, to re-direct, the behavior of students toward this end.
  13. Maintain office hours in the residence halls according to schedule designated by the director of student life, or designee.
  14. Develop effective, efficient methods for accomplishing administrative requirements for communicating with professional colleagues, defining responsibility, delegating authority to staff, and for encouraging creativity and motivation.
  15. Provide crisis management support and intervention, which may be required on weekends, at night, etc.  Develop a hall security program and coordinate emergency procedures, i.e., power outage, recruit/train fire marshals and conduct drills, medical emergencies, bomb threats, etc.  Inform residents on emergency procedures.
  16. Utilize benchmarking surveys to lead evidence-based enhancements in the development of community, programming, facilities, wellness and support services for students, the department and self. 
  17. Fiscally responsible for hall operation and social accounts. 
  18. Perform other duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in higher education administration or counseling or student affairs from a US accredited institution. Non-US credentials (or foreign credentials) must be equated for US equivalency using Word Education Services.  A minimum of three years of residence life experience, including professional student affairs experience. Computer proficient, including: web-based programs, Microsoft Office, and e-mail as a significant mode of communication or documentation. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities are required.

Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree.  Non-US credentials (or foreign credentials) must be equated for US equivalency using Word Education Services http://www.wes.org .   A minimum of five years of residence life experience, including professional student affairs experience. Computer proficient, including: web-based programs, Microsoft Office, and e-mail as a significant mode of communication or documentation. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities are required.
