Duties:

Under the supervision of the vice president for institutional effectiveness and quality assurance (VPIEQA), the position is to provide the following essential responsibilities:

  1. Provides oversight and management of assessment of institutional student learning outcomes (ISLOs). Plans, implements and leads system wide assessment, of the ISLOs across all departments and campus sites; compiles data and prepares reports in collaboration with appropriate units, divisions and offices; coordinates dialogue among units, divisions and offices to formulate recommendations for improvement of student learning and academic quality at the institution level; and conducts study/analysis of correlation of ISLO data with other critical data from the college.
  2. Provides oversight and management of non-academic unit assessment across all departments and campus sites and coordinates dialogue among all college units to improve institutional effectiveness.
  3. Facilitates the use of institutional assessment data in college planning and decision-making by broadly communicating the results of assessment and evaluation activities so that the institution has a shared understanding of its strengths and weaknesses and sets appropriate priorities.
  4. Provides oversight and management of assessment of general education (GE) core learning outcomes for degree and certificate programs including developmental education program component: plans, implements and leads system wide assessment of the GE core student learning outcomes appropriate for all campus sites; compiles data and prepares reports in collaboration with appropriate instructional divisions and Instructional Affairs; analyzes COMET testing data, placement, and GE student learning assessment findings and makes recommendations for improvement of testing, placement; and coordinates dialogue among divisions and offices to formulate recommendations for improvement of student learning and general education program.
  5. Leads the Assessment Committee.
  6. Ensures ongoing assessment of student learning outcomes for all courses and programs; monitors to see that faculty upload assessment reports to the assessment management system.
  7. Ensures ongoing assessment of all administrative unit outcomes; monitors to see that staff upload assessment reports to the assessment management system.
  8. Develops resource materials and provides college wide workshops and presentations to help faculty and staff streamline and improve assessment practices.
  9. Provides leadership, consultation, and training to faculty and staff to create an understanding of how the results of assessment of student learning outcomes and administrative unit outcomes are used to inform instruction, guide classroom teaching, and improve academic quality and institutional effectiveness.
  10. Consults with divisions and program faculty in developing effective and manageable assessment of student learning activities.
  11. Consults with staff in developing effective and manageable assessment of administrative unit outcomes to improve institutional effectiveness.
  12. Provides training and support on college assessment management system. Trains faculty and staff on use of assessment management system and updates on changes in the software. Provides leadership and oversight of supervisors to ensure timely entry of information and data into the assessment management system at unit, course, program, and institutional levels.
  13. Prepares annual college wide academic assessment report that addresses ISLO assessment, program assessment and program review, GE assessment and other assessment data. Prepares other reports as necessary. Makes recommendations for overall improvement of assessment at the college. Assists with the design, implementation and analysis of research against assessment findings.
  14. Conducts college wide forum to provide an opportunity for inquiry regarding student learning outcomes and continued college-wide dialogue on recommendations and strategies for improved teaching and learning.
  15. Disseminates and communicates assessment results to appropriate constituencies,including current and prospective students and the public.
  16. Stays knowledgeable about accreditation, including Eligibility Requirements, Accreditation Standards and Commission policies.
Minimum Qualifications:

A Master degree from a US accredited college. Foreign credentials must be equated to meet US standards using World Education Services at http://www.wes.org. Minimum of three years experience with assessment in higher education. Technical skills sufficient to develop and implement assessment projects, as well as analyze data and write reports. Knowledge of measurement methods and tools, demonstrated awareness of current trends and directions in assessment, Excellent interpersonal and team skills, Ability to work independently, Excellent communications skills with ability to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders. Preferred: Experience as higher education researcher. Experience using TracDat or other assessment management software.
