Duties:

Reporting to the Vice President for Instructional Affairs, the Dean of Academic Programs carries out these major functional responsibilities:

  • Ensure development, delivery, and quality of all academic programs offered at the college.
  • Oversee curriculum development and help ensure all academic programs and academic related services provided at any campus support the mission, values and goals of the college.
  • Ensure review and development of curriculum policies and procedures and represent the instructional affairs department in the participatory governance structure.
  • Facilitate effective communication between faculty, instructional coordinators, division chairs, CTE Director, administration and students.
  • Direct and coordinates activities of instructional coordinators and chairpersons of academic divisions.
  • Evaluate the performance of each division chairperson and facilitates the evaluation of each member of the instructional staff by the division chairperson.
  • Prepare semester schedules in cooperation with the division chairpersons and instructional coordinators.
  • Conduct meetings of division chairperson and instructional coordinators.
  • Prepare academic reports.
  • Participate in academic strategic planning to meet the needs of students and community aligned with the mission of the college.
  • Ensure assessment of student learning at course program and institutional level including general education core to improve student achievement, teaching and institutional effectiveness to meet the demand of accountability.
  • Ensure implementation of professional development and training programs for full-time and part-time faculty, academic leaders.
  • Participate in preparation and updating long term instructional education master plan, yearly plan, yearly performance objectives and corresponding performance based budgets in collaboration with divisions.
  • Implement accreditation processes and requirements.
  • Ensure implementation of an effective academic advising program in collaboration with the Student Services Department that promotes retention and timely program completion.
  • May act as vice president for instructional affairs during his/her absence.
  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as directed by the VPIA.
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in relevant field from a U.S. accredited institution.  Must have teaching experience in the post-secondary level, five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education environment. Demonstrated commitment to student success. Demonstrated leadership and management skills including effective communication skills. Familiarity with the role of education in a developing country. Knowledge of program review processes and program improvement.
